Ruins of a Roman amphitheatre that once entertained hundreds or even thousands of people stands in tact Saturday, Nov. 28, 2009 at Hieropolis Castabala, Turkey. Hieropolis is known for Darius of Persia passing through in 333 B.C., its real permanence in history was 300 years later when it was the capital of an independent kingdom under Tarcondimotus. Tarcondimotus sided with Pompeii against Caesar and was killed in 31 B.C. at the battle of Actium where the fleet of Marc Antony and Cleopatra was defeated.
