4/19/2013 - STUTTGART, Germany -- Philip M. Breedlove was confirmed by the United States Senate as the next U.S. European Command Commander and NATO's Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR) and will assume command from the current EUCOM commander and SACEUR,Adm. James Stavridis.

General Breedlove is currently serving as Commander, U.S. Air Forces in Europe; Commander, U.S. Air Forces Africa; Commander, Headquarters, Allied Air Command, Ramstein; and Director, Joint Air Power Competence Center.

He will take up his appointments as successor to Admiral Stavridis, United States Navy, at change of command ceremonies at EUCOM Headquarters in Stuttgart, Germany, and the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe in Mons, Belgium, in mid-May, 2013.

"I have known General Breedlove for many years and can tell you that his impressive credentials, professionalism, and dynamic leadership make him an ideal choice," said Adm. Stavridis. "I can think of no better officer to lead the men and women of Allied Command Operations and U.S. European Command over the coming years."

Gen. Breedlove responded to his confirmation, saying "I am honored to have been nominated by our Commander in Chief, and confirmed by the U.S. Senate for the position of Commander, U.S. European Command, and Supreme Allied Commander Europe. I am humbled by their trust and confidence, and look forward to leading and serving with our wonderful joint and coalition forces," he said. "Cindy and I pledge our total commitment to contributing to the long and proud record of excellence associated with NATO and U.S. European Command."
