6/23/2011 - WESTERN EUROPE  -- Maj. Gen. Margaret Woodward, Commander, 17th Air Force  (U.S. Air Forces Africa) visited Airmen serving with the 313th Air Expeditionary Wing June 21 to thank them for their service and meet with unit commanders.

Upon Maj. Gen. Woodward's arrival, she was greeted by Col. Edward E. Metzgar, 313th Air Expeditionary Wing commander, along with other senior staff members.

During her visit, Maj. Gen. Woodward spoke with junior enlisted Airmen over lunch and later received a mission briefing from 313th AEW senior staff members. The briefing provided Maj Gen. Woodward with a detailed update on unit operations and Airman morale and welfare.

In addition, Maj Gen. Woodward escorted by Col. Edward E. Metzgar and his senior staff members toured the aircraft maintenance hangar and flight line. Airmen embraced the opportunity to explain the task they were performing, which included installing the boom on a KC-135 "Stratotanker."
