Aviano Airman tests positive for COVID-19

An active-duty Airman assigned to the 31st Fighter Wing, Aviano Air Base, Italy, tested positive for COVID-19 on March 19. This is the first U.S Air Force case in Europe. The Airman is at home in isolation and receiving supportive and medical care in accordance with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and host nation guidelines.

 

Military health professionals are conducting a thorough contact investigation to determine whether any other personnel may have been exposed. Personnel who the service member immediately identified having close contact with have been notified and are in self-isolation at their residence.

 

U.S Air Forces in Europe is committed to taking every measure possible to protect the health of the force and remains in close coordination with 31st FW,  Italian, U.S. embassy, and public health authorities to ensure the well-being of personnel and local population.
