Explosive ordnance disposal Airmen from the 52nd Civil Engineer Squadron at Spangdahlem Air Base, Germany, began a two week training exercise, Northern Challenge, this week at the Icelandic Coast Guard Keflavik Facility, Iceland.

The Iceland-hosted exercise focuses on disabling improvised explosive devices in support of counter-terrorism tactics to prepare Partnership for Peace, NATO, and Nordic nations for international deployments and defense against terrorism.

During the exercise, 52nd EOD Airmen work side by side with counterparts from allied and partner nations to become familiar with each other's military procedures and achieve greater interoperability in combating terrorism. Northern Challenge provides all participating nations the opportunity to exchange ideas on techniques and demonstrate specialized equipment.
