Honoring the fallen
CARTHAGE, Tunisia -- General Tom Hobbins, U.S. Air Forces in Europe commander, lays a rose on the cross of Pvt. Kenneth S. Babe of Pennsylvania during his visit to the North African American Cemetery and Memorial June 25. Private Babe was killed in World War II May 6, 1943. He is one of 2,841 Americans buried in the cemetery, most of who were killed during the landings in, and occupation of, Morocco and Algeria and the subsequent fighting which culminated in the liberation of Tunisia. RAMSTEIN AIR BASE, Germany (USAFENS) -- Gen. Tom Hobbins and Airman 1st Class Buddy Rodgers cut a cake Jan. 19 in celebration of U.S. Air Forces in Europe’s 64th Anniversary. Traditionally, Airmen with the longest time on active duty and the least time on active duty are selected for the honor. General Hobbins is the USAFE commander and began his Air Force career December 1969, while Airman Rodgers, a graphics journeyman assigned to USAFE Headquarters, entered the Air Force in December 2003.
