CARTHAGE, Tunisia -- General Tom Hobbins, U.S. Air Forces in Europe commander, lays a rose on the cross of Pvt. Kenneth S. Babe of Pennsylvania during his visit to the North African American Cemetery and Memorial June 25. Private Babe was killed in World War II May 6, 1943. He is one of 2,841 Americans buried in the cemetery, most of who were killed during the landings in, and occupation of, Morocco and Algeria and the subsequent fighting which culminated in the liberation of Tunisia.
