Security for Exercise Steadfast Jaguar
CAPE VERDE, Africa -- SSgt Lee Lyles, 786th Security Forces Squadron from Sembach, Germany, surveys the runway in front of a German C-130 at Sal Airport in the Republic of Cape Verde. SSgt Lyles is part of a combined force protection team for Exercise Steadfast Jaguar, the first combined-joint exercise designed to test the new NATO Response Force. The exercise is geared to see if the force can respond to short-notice missions either by land, sea and air. The Response Force concept is expected to be fully operational by October this year. When it is, the Alliance will be able to deploy up to 25,000 troops within five days anywhere in the world responding to humanitarian relief to major combat operations. Most NATO countries and about 7,000 sailors, soldiers and airmen are participating in the exercise until June 28. (Photo by MSgt Ron Przysucha)
