Colonel receives first of three C-17s for 12-nation Strategic Airlift Capability Program

LONG BEACH, Calif.--U.S. Air Force Col. John Zazworsky officially received the first of three C-17s to be acquired by the 12-nation Strategic Airlift Capability Program. The colonel commands the program’s multinational, operational-level unit, the Heavy Airlift Wing, which includes personnel from NATO member nations Bulgaria, Estonia, Hungary, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Romania, Slovenia and the United States, as well as from Partnership for Peace nations Finland and Sweden. LONG BEACH, Calif.--SAC 01, the first of three C-17s to be acquired by the 12-nation Strategic Airlift Capability Program, takes off from Long Beach, Calif., on July 14, beginning its 5,300-nautical-mile maiden flight home to Pápa AB, Hungary. Rescue at Sea

HH-60 helicopters with the 56th Rescue Squadron take off at RAF Lakenheath, United Kingdom yesterday to fly more than 500 miles west of Ireland for a real-world rescue mission. A crew member of a cargo ship suffered a serious head injury requiring medevac, and U.S. forces were called upon to help.
