The Netherlands Air Force Master Sgt. Marcel Boeija, a loadmaster with the Heavy Airlift Wing, Papa Air Base, Hungary, reconfigures a C-17 transport aircraft on Jan. 20 to load aid materials and equipment bound for Haiti. The aircraft and its multi-national aircrew were preparing for a second mission from Orebro Sweden. The crew had previously delivered 15 pallets of material to construct a headquarters for aid workers at the Port-au-Prince, Haiti airport on Jan. 18. in response to the massive earthquake that struck Haiti Jan. 12. This is the first humanitarian assistance operation flown by the Heavy Airlift Wing since it stood up in July 2009. The wing is a multi-national force made up of Airmen from 12 nations.
