U.S. Air Force explosive ordnance disposal technicians assigned to the 409th Air Expeditionary Group at Nigerien Air Base 201, Niger, conducted a hostage rescue exercise here, April 27.

During the exercise, EOD technicians removed a simulated improvised explosive device from a fellow Airman playing the role of a hostage.

This training develops and enhances the 409th EOD’s ability to professionally and competently mitigate explosive threats in the area.

As an invited guest of the government of Niger, Airmen in the 409th AEG are committed to providing installation support and defense-in-depth while enabling our Nigerien partner’s ability to provide security and stability of Africans through training and other means.

The 409th AEG provides secure, reliable, flexible power projection platforms across North and West Africa and base operating support integrator, or BOS-I, in support of combatant commanders’ objectives and partner nations.
