Theater security package transitions to Romania

Six United States Air Force F-15C/D Eagles from the Oregon and Massachusetts Air National Guard departed Graf Ignatievo Air Base, Bulgaria, and arrived today in Campia Turzii, Romania, to participate in the joint Romanian-American flight training event Dacian Eagle 2018. Six more jets will arrive Friday.

Additionally, nearly 260 Airmen from the Oregon ANG departed Bulgaria. They will be replaced by approximately the same number of Airmen from the Massachusetts ANG who will meet the jets in Romania. The aircraft and Airmen are deployed as the 131st Expeditionary Fighter Squadron, a Theater Security Package in support of Operation Atlantic Resolve. Approximately 40 Airmen from the 52nd Fighter Wing, Spangdahlem Air Base, Germany, are supporting the 131st EFS for this mission.

Since 2015 the U.S. Air Force schedules and deploys force packages of fighters and tankers throughout the U.S. European Command area of responsibility. TSP deployments to Europe vary in length and are supported with total force aircraft and Airmen from stateside units.

This deployment highlights the United States' ability to deploy fighter aircraft in support of our partners and allies in the European theater, and around the world.

The TSP is funded by the European Deterrence Initiative. Activities funded through EDI increase the capability and readiness of U.S. forces, allowing for a faster response in the event of any aggression by a regional adversary against NATO sovereign territory.
