Aviano Airman selected for Military Times Service Members of the Year award

An Airman joined members representing each of the service branches for a recognition ceremony at the Cannon House Office Building on Capitol Hill July 9.

Staff Sgt. MercedesKimble L. Crossland, currently assigned to the 31st Fighter Wing Public Affairs Office at Aviano Air Base, Italy, was nominated for the award because of her on- and off-duty accomplishments, community service and mentoring. She was nominated by her supervisors at her previous duty location, Altus Air Force Base, Okla.

The annual Military Times Service Members of the Year awards are sponsored by the Army Times Publishing Company with the help of several cosponsors.

Military and civilian dignitaries including Secretary of the Air Force Michael B. Donley, Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Norton Schwartz and Lt. Gen. Richard Y. Newton III, the Air Force deputy chief of staff for manpower, personnel and services, were there for the presentation ceremony.
